Stress Tip #208: Mindfulness as Responsibility

The practice of mindfulness is about personal responsibility: shifting the focus of your attention from the past to the present. In this moment you have a choice how you act, and each action has a consequence. What you say and do affects the world around you. If you want more kindness in the world, you need to demonstrate kindness. If you want more generosity, you need to be generous. Of course the world is complex and a myriad of factors constantly influence outcomes, but we need to take responsibility for ourselves and what we’re bringing to the table. Be clear what you value, and be consistent in expressing those values. Mindfulness directs you to practice being calm so that you can be clear and attentive each moment, regardless of the conditions around you.
